Walker Caddy

This caddy provides some convenience for anyone with a walker. The finished size is approximately 7” x 12.”  The project is purposely made as one large pocket to make it as easy as possible for fingers to access anything inside.

Materials

  • Sturdy fabrics such as denim work well
  • Velcro, snaps or buttons

Instruction

Note: All seam allowances are 1/2”

  • Cut 1 piece of fabric 13-1/2 wide x 16” long for caddy body (A)
  • Cut 2 pieces of fabric 4” wide x 21-1/2 long for straps

Caddy Body

  1. On 13-1/2”” x 16” piece, finish the top and bottom edges by either serging the edges or by turning under 1/4”  and pressing to the wrong side.
  2. Fold down 1-1/4” to the wrong side on both top and bottom edges and machine hem. (B)

Straps

  • If using a light-weight fabric, sew each strap piece right sides together leaving an opening for turning. Turn right side out, then top-stitch 1/4” from all sides. Finished size will be 1-1/2”” x  20-1/2.”
  •  If using heavier fabric (such as denim), press all seam allowances to the wrong side of fabric. Then, fold strap in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and top-stitch ¼” in  from all sides. Finished size will be 1 ½” x 20 ½”

Construction

  • Lay straps on caddy 2 ½” from each side with one end of strap even with the top of the caddy. Sew onto caddy. (C)

  • Fold caddy in half with right sides together and sew side seams.(D)

  • Turn right side out. Add hook and loop tape onto ends of straps using an “X” configuration to secure or sew buttons and buttonholes onto straps for closures. (E & F)
