What’s the best way to organize my sewing library so I can easily find things when I need them?
There are a number of ways to organize your sewing books, depending on what works best for you. Many people like to arrange their books by subject matter. For example, a section on wearable art titles, another on beading, tailoring, etc. Within each section, you may want to arrange books alphabetically by title, or by the author if that’s how you would normally reference the book. If you don’t have space all in one area for your sewing library, this method is particularly effective, as you can divide locations by subject–for example, wearable art books might reside in the hall, tailoring books in the sewing room, and beading books in the den, etc.
Another strategy for organizing sewing books is to arrange them by author if you have several by a particular favorite writer. For example, group all Nancy Zieman books together for easy finding.
Either of these methods works to add some organization to the book stash, and some sewers even make a list of all the titles in their library for reference. Like sewing patterns, it’s easy to buy the same book twice if you forgot you have it already. Putting this list in the computer allows for updating when you get a new tome.
