A distinctive gift for any bride to be, this lovely garter may become a family heirloom to be passed from bridge to bride. Antique laces may be used for this project if desired. What a great way to add even more meaning to this charming tradition!

Making the Garter

Starting ½” in from one end, and ¾” down from the edge of lace, straight stitch both edges of ⅝” blue satin ribbon to lace. NOTE: If using a different width lace than 2½”, center the ribbon on the lace.

Apply elastic, centered on the wrong side of lace, with a tight tension on elastic guide (see Elastic Wizard instructions). Use ribbon that is showing through lace as a guide. Trim ends of ribbons evenly.

Place ends, wrong sides together, matching elastic to make a circle. Make a French seam.

Making the Rose

Fold a 45 degree angle on raw end of pink ribbon. Continue winding to the left creating a small rose (see Diagram). Using needle and thread take several small stitches to complete the rose.

Tack loop of ¼” moss green ribbon under each side of rose. Secure ⅜” blue ribbon pieces under rose for tails. Tack rose to front of garter.
